Who We Are
Skills For Careers executes the Bowers University of Crafts, Inc. (BUC) Plan, which specializes in vocational training, enabling trainees to earn a living and start a rewarding career doing what they like. The BUC Plan is designed to attack poverty and assure trainees will rise to the mainstream to experience the American Dream. They will give back to their community.
Trainees learn a trade and earn a valuable Job-Ready BUC certification.
BUC certification will position the trainee to get a Job-Ready contract with our committed partners/employers.
BUC graduates will fill a void for trained labor in the construction industry and beyond.
The program is geared towards trainees who are not seeking a college degree but want a career using their hands and mind. Many citizens who may not have excelled in traditional educational settings, or may feel left out of what America has promised, will benefit from the BUC Plan.

What We Offer
The value of a BUC graduate extends far beyond construction expertise. We are mentoring trainees to be valuable neighbors, citizens, and taxpayers for generations to come.
The BUC Plan offers citizens who may not have excelled in traditional educational settings the opportunity to realize success in this program because they will be able to learn without fear of failure.
Upon earning a certification in their chosen craft/trade, the graduate is expected to experience emotions of joy and happiness at their success, as it will be the first time for many of them, that their lives will finally move them from a place of poverty to a place of worth, independence, and interdependence!
Each trainee will also receive ongoing Life Skills training.
Upon being certified by BUC, trainees will receive:
- A streamlined curriculum for each trade prepared by experienced professionals (no long stays in a classroom setting)
- Skills Training administered by experienced instructors
- Starter Tools including hardhats and safety shoes (FREE for all trainees)
- Required Life Skills and behavioral training
- Hands-On projects to assure every trainee is Job-Ready
- BUC Certification of accomplishment in their craft/trade of choice
- A Contract offer to begin his/her new career
- Accumulated weekly stipends for each graduate to begin their new career
- A Bank Account to include: Checking, Savings, and Debit Card
